Why use Xetrion Lock Manager with Domino/Notes 6 and 7?

Lotus Domino/Notes 6 introduces a new built-in document locking feature which prevents save and replication conflicts, but for Notes clients only.

Using Xetrion Lock Manager in Domino/Notes 6.x and 7.x environments adds document locking for Web clients plus all the other features offered by Xetrion Lock Manager, such as:

• "Check alive"
  Automatically unlocks documents which are no longer "alive" due to client system crashes (e.g. lost power supply) or broken network connections.
• "Maximum edit time"
  Automatically unlocks documents which reached the maximum lock time configured in Lock Manager Setup. This sets a time limit on editing a document by one user.

Xetrion Lock Manager has its own core document locking technology which works in all Lotus Domino/Notes releases and prevents save conflicts in one database replica. In Domino/Notes 6.x and 7.x environments Xetrion Lock Manager additionally uses Domino built-in document locking feature to provide cross replica (server) document locking which prevents save and replication conflicts.
